I've stopped using Google Maps for holiday planning, saving me countless hours. Trip.com has near flawless multi-stop trip planning. Trip.com let's you change the transportation mode between each stop. Google Maps only supports a single mode of transportation (e.g. walk, car, train) despite multiple stops.

Toggling transportation options between stops

End of custom path crafting

I used to craft custom Google Maps of all the places I wanted to visit in a city in and then manually shuffle the order to minimize travel time. The process probably took me a few hours per city.

With Trip.com's itinerary builder, the route is automatically optimized. All you have to do is specify which locations you want to visit, and it will even split it into multiple days for you. If you are cost conscious or want to minimize travel time between spots, you can also switch the mode of transportation between stops as shown in the green box in the image above.

What else can Trip.com AI Itinerary planning do?

What can it not do is the question. For me, the AI can plan based on when you want to start the day, but once you're in the planner view, you cannot manually adjust when each travel day starts. e.g. if you prefer to visit your first stop at 11am. The system assumes a start based on opening time or 9am.

You can save the itinerary and share it with others in read-only or edit mode.

It will give you an estimate of the total cost.

How much times does Trip.com AI planning save?

Tourist typically visit the same spots, so you can just tell the AI to plan a more relaxed schedule or tell it to give you X hours more time. Including using the voice to text prompt on my phone, I can basically get a multi-city trip planned in about 2 minutes at the phone.

To achieve a similar result manually, it used to take me a few days to compare TripAdvisor, plan on Google Maps, perhaps use Google Flights, Rome2Rio, Agoda.com and other sites like Viator.

My holiday planning went from a few days to under 5 minutes with Trip.com

The incredible time savings has made me a Trip.com fan, even before I discovered Trip.com has one of the best loyalty programs and transparent prices out there. Learn more why I said good-bye to Agoda.
