As much as I love Trip.com (app), there are still some missing features that stop me from using other apps. This is my app and feature wish list to help me move off other apps.

I'm not going to talk about ROI for these features as the data is not publicly available.

Sadly, I am posting this because there is no in-app product feedback functionality in the Trip.com app. All links and AI chatbot conversations point to customer support for travel related issues only.

TripIt

TripIt does something quite well; historical travel stats.

It doesn't satisfy the hard-core flight stats and flight path feature that some users crave, but I think it's good enough for most travelers interested in miles flown or countries visited to keep them invested with the app. It does not list the countries or cities, which is disappointing.

Trip.com's Travel Log:

  • does not support more than 12 months of travel history, so it's hard for travelers to brag.
  • has limited itinerary import options. Picture import is available, but surprisingly, taking a picture is not an option. e.g. take a picture of your laptop screen from your phone. This is a must even without considering TripIt.

There are some other data hurdles to overcome here. TripIt does not make it easy to export data, and Trip.com doesn't have a bulk import feature, so that's a blocker for most people.

Of course, expense tracking and loyalty point tracking across airlines and hotels is also missing from Trip.com. There's too much functionality there for me to even list.

To be fare, TripIt has been feature stagnant since SAP bought them. There's a lot of opportunity for various startups to replace TripIt.

XE

This is my go-to app for looking up currency exchange rates.

While the Trip.com app does have this functionality, it's buried deep in the app, which means it takes me way too long to do a conversion. If there's a way to pin that functionality to my phone's home screen, I wouldn't need a separate app and can ditch XE.
