Deceptive Businessweek subscription practices
Has no one in the US sued Businessweek yet?
- There is no option to turn off automatic renewal in their UI for print subscribers. The options are all to keep automatic renewal enabled
- They kept my credit card on file beyond it's intended use date.
- They charged me even after my subscription is shown as expired in the UI.
To my horror I only discovered Businessweek's deceptive practices after they charged me twice after my subscription should've expired.
- They charged me in Oct 2024 for next year's subscription after the subscription should've self-expired in Nov 2024.
- In Oct 2025, they renewed the subscription they illegally renewed the prior year.
There is no excuse for Businessweek to do this for 2 years.

I ended up calling my credit card company up to dispute the charge, which fortunately resulted in a refund, but only for Oct 2025 and not for the prior year. The other downside is the credit card company's policy against disputed charges is to cancel the existing card and reissue a new one. That created extra work for me as I had other legitimate subscriptions using that card. I spent more time updating the billing details for those subscriptions.
