Are internal Microsoft job applications more successful?

Some of you may wonder whether the chances of an interview with Microsoft are higher when you apply as an existing full-time employee when compared to an external applicant. Totally non-scientific, but this was my experience.

From my own statistics, I can tell you that I applied to 28 roles internally and landed interviews only twice. That's about 7%.

My career non-Microsoft job applications numbered about 400, and I only landed 8 interviews, so that's about 2%.
